Pastor de Shetland Shetland Sheepdog Temperament

The Shetland Sheepdog, affectionately called the "Sheltie" is one of the most trainable and loving breeds out there. They are incredibly intelligent and in tune with your thoughts and moods particular. Can be almost psychic when it comes to knowing what you are feeling. If you want to play, the Sheltie is ready to play. If you're sad, your Sheltie will show your concern with a worried look and a few kisses. If you are not in the mood, your Sheltie will give you your space. They are sensitive and responsive to training, and sometimes responds to the commands before they are given. This is one of the top races in the obedience ring, but also excel in agility, herding, and flyball. They need a moderate amount of exercise every day, and are happier when they have this outdoor exercise. The Shetland Sheepdog is a working dog and need a job to do. They need something to occupy their minds. If you do not give them something, they'll think of something on their own, which is usually not a good thing. They are also devoted companions and family dogs and are particularly child-friendly. They want to participate in everything you do and go wherever you go. Will follow from room to room, including bathroom. They are also protective, especially of "their" children, and warn you barking every time someone comes to your door. Are sensitive to sound and barking all sounds strange, even those who barely listen. The barking can be a problem with Shelties as they seem to have much to say. They are very expressive and also speaks with moans, groans, growling and barking of a thousand different. (You can smile.) Ladrarte Not only will they also may try to "herd" ... But it's not personal. Also try children as a flock ... also on bicycles, joggers, cars, ducks, and sometimes the planes. Generally are naturally suspicious of strangers and should be socialized at an early age. They are safer in a house with a fenced garden. They are peaceful with other dogs and animals. A Sheltie has to be part of the family. It is an intensely loyal dog and will not be fine if left alone. They love their families and crave human interaction. Owning a Sheltie is an effort to 24-7. They love the attention. They love to learn. They love to please. They also love to bark and steal food from your children.
